Save the Children welcomes the approval of the National Disability Act by The House of the People
5th August 2024 Mogadishu, Somalia – Save the Children congratulates the House of the People of Federal Government of Somalia on the approval of the National Disability Act. The legislation marks a significant milestone in advancing the rights and protections of children and adults with disabilities across Somalia.
Every child deserves the opportunity to grow up in a safe and supportive environment. With the passing of this Act, Somalia has taken a major step towards ensuring that all children, especially those with disabilities, are given the protection and opportunities that they deserve.

"The approval of the Somalia Disability Act marks a pivotal moment in advancing the rights of children and adults with disabilities across the country. We commend the Somali Parliament for achieving this milestone in ensuring a more inclusive and protective environment for all. The enactment of this Act, along with the implementation of the the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD), will provide a comprehensive and coherent approach to protecting and promoting the rights of persons with disabilities, ensuring practical and enforceable protections for children and adults with disabilities in Somalia.”
