Hargeisa, Somaliland – On Saturday, the House of Elders of Somaliland has passed Somaliland’s Child Rights Act, a key policy that will pave the way for children of Somaliland to realize a better future and their full rights. The act was earlier passed by the House of Parliament.

This important Act ensures that children’s rights are mainstreamed in the government systems in line with the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child and the constitution of Somaliland.

Mowlid Mudan, Deputy Head of Advocacy, Campaigns, Communications and Media said:

“The approval of the Child Rights Act by the House of Elders is a key breakthrough for children’s agenda in Somaliland. Save the Children welcomes the news of the approval, and we congratulate both houses of parliament, parents and the Somaliland children for this important milestone. We call on the president of Somaliland, H.E Muse Bihi, to expedite the signing and gazettement of the Act.
